Recent craziness at work has reduced posting on this blog to a scant trickle; I’ve had little time to read and even less time to write about it. That, hopefully, will be changing soon.
In the meantime, I’ll just point you to the myspace page of a couple artists I recently heard perform at Opus99 [1] (the bi-monthly arts coffeehouse hosted by my church).
The Image Ends are a recently formed two-man group local to Boston (the lead singer is actually a friend of a friend). One friend at the show Friday night described them as a Christian Radiohead, which is about right. The demos on their page are worth a listen, though they don’t quite capture the experience of hearing them live, which was (how to say this?) loud. Wonderfully, gloriously loud (the apologies I may have to deliver to the neighbors of our church notwithstandng…).
Kathryn O’Leary is another local artist that I’ve recently had the pleasure of getting to know as a member at Christ the King; we’re lucky enough to have her leading us in worship periodically, as well as writing music and lyrics to a number of new songs we’ve incorporated into our services. She’s not as loud, but certainly as worth checking out if you’re a fan of the acoustic folk genre. She’s drawn comparisons (like this one) to Ani DiFranco – although those of you with knowledge of music exceeding my own (read: all of you) might improve on that.
